Why?

After 2 1/2 years of blogging and now 20,000 hits on this site, I am doing a little thinking about why I blog and what I want to get out of it.

One of the blogs I read has a fan base that makes mine pale by comparison. There is a rant that on goes and takes a hard line on politicians. He spends a lot of time researching his views and makes a lot of references and links to blogs that support his view. I don't think I need to vent a lot more than I do so I'll not take that tone.

One of the blogs had a very short post almost daily and has a comments section that resembles a forum with between 25 to 35 posts by dedicated readers. At one time I wondered what impact I had and was concerned about the lack of feedback. I kind of decided that I don't need the feedback to feel good so I just put a counter on my post to see how many people hut my site.

I read the books by Lew Grizzard, of "Shoot Low Boys, they're Riding Shetland Ponies" fame. The Books were basically a compilation of his column in the paper. He told stories about his life and his adventures writing for Newspapers. I kind of want to write stuff so one day I can put it together for a book. But, I'm not sure that I have that "need" to succeed.

Barb reads what I write and sends me pictures when she thinks I need some visuals. I have at least 5,000 pictures I can use to provide color and a visual.

In the short haul, I will just continue to write and hope you continue to read.

  1. The person who got me interested in blogging is now a world famous blogger. She gets comments in the hundreds to thousands each day. While I'll admit I do get a kick out of comments, I don't know how I could handle that many comments. Though it is gratifying to know that some people read my blog (and even return regularly), I don't know if I could take the pressure of having such a huge and faithful following as her. I'm just glad I get to read what she writes and that I can write my own little blog without feeling I need to do what she has done. I started my blog for me, so I could have a place to express my thoughts. In the end, that's what matters most to me and why I keep posting. Yes, sometimes my thoughts are about incredibly trivial and mundane things or just downright ridiculous. That's okay, too. Just the act of writing a little on a regular basis--no matter what the subject--really does something for me. The connections I've made with other people along the way have also enriched my life beyond measure, and I am so very thankful for each one of them.

    Keep writing. I'll keep reading:o)

  2. I check your blog daily. I can see your humanity coming through when you talk about your girls. I read every word you write and perhaps because of the filter of love we have for you nothing is ever trivial. I agree, keep writing and I'll keep reading. MUD

  3. MUD,
I appreciate you stopping by my blog and advising me to shop at Cosco's or Sam's! Loved it!

I was inspired to blog by a fellow in Tacoma, Washington..."Walking Tacoma". He is a minister, of sorts, and started walking the streets of Tacoma, praying for people, homes, businesses along his journey. He is a wonderful photographer and takes some of the most fantastic pictures along his walk. It has been almost 4 years since I linked to his blog.

My own insignificant blog has taken many twists and turns in these 4 years. Lately it has been pretty lame but I don't want to give it up. It has become a part of my life.

All of this to say...thanks and I love the fact that your wife has a hand in it!

  4. Mud, the reason that I read your blog daily is because it proves to me that good folks exist in every area of the world. We all have different ways of looking at things and we struggle daily to find the sanity that keeps us headed in the right direction.

We all find our inspiration in different ways. Mine comes from seeing folks are damn good people, loving their families, taking care of their little piece of the world, and finding joy in the simplicity of making a deck and retainer wall.

Yeah, guys like us get upset at some of the things that we see in this world, but the reason that we get upset is because we want to leave this place better than we found it because we love people.
